You will all be aware that, for safety reasons, we follow the IAAF/UKA rule which does do not allow the wearing of earpieces or headphones when an event is held on roads open to traffic, unless medically required and notified to us in advance. This same rule also applies to the use of any device which give pacing assistance. We have in the past disqualified runners for ignoring that rule. Please note that we MUST be told in advance of any need to wear hearing aids.
To produce our race results we use chip timing by HS Sport - and, provided runners wear the numbers and chips they've been issued with correctly, this works. We also have Time and Position recorders manually recording runners times and places over the line, and these, together with finish line photographs and film, are then available for us to manually check results, if necessary.
As well as the standard 'gun' time format which we use for awarding prizes and trophies, and for producing these race results, we also give 'chip' times and places for runners to compare their performance here with that at other events.
